FIBERGLASS FORMULA SAE
NOSE CONE

September 2017 - May 2019

Final Paint Coat

The nose cone is pictured drying in the sun after the final coat of paint was applied. We used an airbrush to apply light even strokes in order to avoid adding weight to the car. The nose cone is pictured being supported by the positive foam mold that we cut using a hot-wire foam cutter we built. The surface of the nose cone had to be  sanded with a fine grit before and after the paint was applied.

Raw Fiberglass Nosecone

The nosecone is pictured mounted on the car chassis in its raw state, prior to painting.

Battery Install

In addition to nose cone design and manufacturing I helped with some of the last minute mechanical issues and installs.

Stella CAD Assembly

A 3-D model of an assembly of the BU Formula SAE car, affectionately named Stella. The nose cone is featured on the front of the car, showing relative size and placement on the car.

The Final Form

The nose cone is pictured here on competition day with all of the sponsor logos and official racing numbers applied.

The formula SAE car is pictured here with the nose cone fully bolted down.
